FARMER’S MARKETS, ORCHARDS, & AGRITOURISM

In Vermont terms, we’re a big city, but in reality, we’re very much a part of Vermont. And that means that agriculture plays a big part in the Burlington experience. Towns across the region host their own farmer’s markets in the warm months and Burlington hosts an indoor market in the winter months as well. You’ll find organic produce, pasture-raised local meats, artisanal baked goods and more at most of them.

In the fall you must check out the Shelburne Orchard and Chapin Orchard in Essex. The views alone are worth the trip and nothing says autumn like a warm cider donut. In the springtime, when the sap has started to run, watch the maple sugaring operation at Palmer’s Sugarhouse and try some sugar on snow. Grab a few pints of real Vermont syrup to bring home because you’ll never want anything else on your pancakes after you’ve tasted it.

As with everything in the new normal, make sure to check ahead to see the current COVID protocols and hours.
