BREWERIES IN BURLINGTON, VT
“
Brewers and hop lovers from around the world travel to Vermont for our beer — it’s a brewing culture unique enough to be recognized by the state itself. “Vermont beer” is a categorical distinction, a style defined by the Green Mountain State. According to the National Brewers Association, we currently have around fourteen breweries per 100,000 people over age twenty-one in Vermont, leading the country in number of craft breweries per capita. Matt Canning, the beer concierge at Hotel Vermont in Burlington, was the first person in the world to hold the “beer concierge” title, a position he made up himself to cover our state’s beer scene — internationally famous, locally beloved and hidden gem breweries alike. The first annual (now globally acclaimed) Vermont Brewer’s Festival started in Burlington in 1991. Breweries like South Burlington’s Magic Hat helped define American craft beer as early as the 1990’s, and helped foster the state’s next best brewers. The patio at Foam Brewers, named one of the best new breweries in the world after opening in 2016, faces the wide Lake Champlain waterfront and the Adirondack Mountains. Some of the most sought-after craft beers in the country can be found almost anywhere, including the local pubs with karaoke nights and the date-night restaurants with expert cocktail programs. Drop-offs of four-packs with cult followings happen daily at our food co-op, City Market. And Burlington’s beer community is a close one, with brewers lending equipment, helping to distribute beer and sometime even setting up shop across the street from each other. (On Pine Street, we can enjoy drafts of Zero Gravity Craft Beer with homemade bratwursts and then walk right across the street for a pour at Queen City Brewery.) With all the breweries in Burlington, our beer world is your oyster.
