 COFFEE IN BURLINGTON

Powered by the surrounding college student population, Burlington’s coffee shop scene boats a diverse set of drinking options--whether you crave a cortado or a classic drip cup there’s a coffee with your name on it. (Sometimes literally.)

For our money, no visit to BVT is complete without a trip to Muddy Waters right downtown. A thriving coffee shop since opening in the 90s, Muddy offers turmeric laced lattes and strong drip pours alongside trailing tropical plants and tree house vibes—sure to keep you grounded even if you add an extra shot to your red eye.

It’s not surprising that the land of home brewers and raised garden beds has given rise to an increasing number of in-house coffee roasters, too. Vivid Coffee roasts in front of customers in Winooski, and has earned a cult following for their small farmer relationships and great blends (grab a bag of Sugar Shack if you see it, trust us). Kestral Coffee and Brio Coffeeworks also boast on-site roasting where you can soak in the toasty notes as you pick up a bag for home.

Want some great food with a great cup? Look no further than the spacious, light-filled interior of New Moon Café with it’s full espresso bar, seasonal coffee drinks, and daytime food menu. And if you’re looking for a little treat to go with your, we recommend a trip to Monarch and the Milkweed for fancy CBD edibles and upscale diner food.

And our beloved tea drinkers, you’re not alone! For an exceptional herbal experience we beeline to Dobra Tea, a serene tearoom with low-lighted nooks and over 100 varieties to choose from.

No matter your caffeine choice, make sure to call ahead to our local shops to see their COVID protocols and hours.

Eating local is a way of life in Burlington. It’s a food system as dynamic and closely intertwined as the farmers, makers, artisans and purveyors that make the city’s heart beat. Similar to music cities like Nashville and New Orleans, Burlington is a town with music in its late-night DNA. From dive bars to hotel lobbies, you’ll be able to catch local music talent alongside your old fashioned or chilled glass of rosè. Our downtown features spots all within close walking distance to each other, meaning you can have a choose-your-own-adventure…

Vermont is a global lodestar for serious bakers, a state home to King Arthur Flour, sourdough icons, and centuries of artisan bread making traditions. In Burlington, our dedication to artisan loaves crystallizes. It doesn’t take much digging to find rounds of levain made with local wheat, or chewy sourdough rye waiting in paper bags for pick-up.
